The insight

 :D:P

In the 2000s, emojis were typed with punctuation. A colon and a D was a smiling face. A colon and a P, one sticking its tongue out.

Today’s mothers grew up speaking that way. They read the code without anyone explaining it. That was the starting point: a brand that spoke the language of the person who decides, not the one who plays.

WhatsApp conversation: “Vamos a :Play:Date!” answered with “:P :D”
The concept, working on its own
The concept

Kids Play,
Moms Date

A place designed at two heights at once: the kids play, and the mothers stay comfortable with a proper coffee. The brand had to promise both things in a single line.

P + D — the logotype

The colons are not decoration: they are the eyes. Every word opens with them and the rest of the letter makes the face — the P sticks its tongue out, the D smiles. Hand-drawn, tilted, in the colors of a box of crayons.

Applied to materials

The brand splits between its two audiences: what the kids use and what the mothers see. Cups, aprons, tees, caps, name stickers and even a crayon.

Inside :Play:Date · Guatemala

1 × Espresso
1 × Flat white
1 × Batch brew
∞ × Mother’s coffee

The mothers’ coffee did not stay a mockup. Che and Raquel opened Open Door inside the venue and ran it themselves, serving specialty coffee for several months.

Designing the experience and then working it from the other side of the counter teaches things no brand manual covers.
